It is well known, and even more so in these times of blockade for Qatar, that this small state of the Arabian Gulf imports more than 90% of the food consumed by the 2.7 million inhabitants, including nationals and expatriates. The authorities of this Emirate have made great efforts in terms of food safety since 2011, investing more than $ 50 million in actions to boost their food program and promoting the global alliance with the desert countries and semi-desert countries (Global Dry Lands Alliance).
In spite of this, this state has not obtained good results in food and water self-sufficiency. For this reason, ICP Consulting has promoted both commercial and industrial actions in favor of Qatari food security for over 5 years, counting with the country’s distribution chains as an ally, as well as with Hassad Food, a food production and sale company, with which it collaborated in the implementation of a joint venture with Spanish companies specialized in the installation of greenhouses and of advanced systems of irrigation.
Agreements were developed with a subsidiary of this important company, the National Food Company (NAFCO), aimed at achieving a visible presence of fruits, vegetables and other Spanish food products in the Qatari market. ICP Consulting’s commitment to the Middle East and the countries of the Arabian Gulf has been intensified by the economic and supply crisis that batters this small state.
